through innovation in Korea's R&D system.
Greetings,

As we navigate an era triggered by technological supremacy driven by the US-China rivalry, the global race to dominate transformative technologies has become increasingly intense. In response, leading nations are swiftly adopting innovative and ambitious R&D support frameworks, inspired by the renowned US DARPA program, which stands as a beacon of groundbreaking innovation.

While Korea has made strides in promoting various R&D initiatives to secure disruptive technologies, the supporting structures essential for these endeavors remain insufficient. Crucially, the pursuit of innovative technologies necessitates a transition to a more agile and sophisticated R&D framework, calling for the establishment of a new support system that surpasses traditional institutional limitations.

ASTRA is dedicated to propelling Korea to the forefront of global science and technology by fostering a dynamic and challenging R&D environment. Our vision is to cultivate transformative technologies through an autonomous and accountable research culture. To this end, we have identified four strategic directions for our initiatives:

1. Developing a planning system to address global challenges,

2. Implementing a high-risk, high-impact management system grounded in autonomy and accountability,

3. Achieving transformative outcomes through well-defined missions and goals,

4. Establishing a rapid commercialization pathway via scale-up R&D support.

As we embark on this pioneering journey, we are prepared to face numerous challenges and diverse concerns from our surroundings. In particular, in a society where authority is often scrutinized and recognition is hard-won, the strong leadership and decisive authority of the prime program manager will undoubtedly face continuous scrutiny and challenge.

Embarking on a new voyage requires the courage to embrace risks, but equally vital is the unwavering support of dedicated backers. We sincerely seek your interest and support to ensure that ASTRA becomes a catalyst for a profound transformation in our nation's R&D ecosystem and a cradle of global technological innovation.

Thank you.
